Love on a Train

PHOTO PROMPT © Kent Bonham

She was a simple girl from somewhere in the midwest
Touring Europe rough by train, sampling our Octoberfest

An American by birth, thus quite self-impressed
Until she spilt a pint of Timisoara on me, in Budapest

We giggled as we both rushed in with serviette’s
We hopped a train together then, at my ardent behest

We fell in lust, sampled our first kiss over the shared armrest
As the train carried us into the night, and on to Budapest

When we parted, she handed me a viszlát* bequest
A notebook, filled with poetry, a single Violet- in its pages, pressed

This 100 word creation is my contribution to both Friday Fictioneers and the Wea’ve Written Weekly poetry challenge. This form is called a ghazal.

The overall Train theme was by the suggestion of The Procrastinators.

*Good-bye in Hungarian

  1. Hi Violet,I like how lyrical and dreamy in many ways this piece comes across. There is lots of youthful joy and excitement in the poetry that mimics the reality of travelling and meeting someone new. I enjoyed reading this.

    • I am here for the social aspect as well as the creative. Conversation is quickly becoming a lost art, and I for one have chosen to go down fighting for the last few precious words! Welcome, Artie. Glad to have you visit my little corner of the world.

  2. I used to be so brave taking the bus into the city… a teenager. Now I wouldn’t ride the subway alone if someone paid me… But then now I don’t even drive at night if I don’t have to.

Memories are important for inspiration. Little seeds of joy that sprout on the page.

  3. Wonderful journey … and congratulations on POW. Your poem took me on a reminiscing journey as I did meet someone on a train once, that we got off at the same stop and went for a drink… never happened before or since … also the use of flower pressing, I have many sentimental flowers pressed into some old books …. Really lovely take 💞Suzanne
