CCC #69
A numerical word puzzle- of sorts. Just insert the correct numerical word and you’ve got a nursery rhyme. But can you make sense of all of them? That’s where the puzzle part comes in…
2 trolls went a gnoming
4 new garden statuaries
1 laid a trap with mushrooms
1 a snare of plump ripe berries
2 gnomes went a trolling
4 what? neither 1 would say
8 berries, shrooms and- fishing nets?
9! from those- they 0βve stayed away..
Forgive me if I fancy myself clever in this. I’m old and easily entertained…
This is my response to the photo prompt supplied by Crimson’s Creative Challenge this week.
I’m old and easily confused. Mmmm *scratches head* … ah, got it, apart from the last line??

Aha! That is when a need for the many names that can be ascribed to the numeral zero come into play…. If no one gets it, I will post the answer in plain text later on today.

Right. Got the second half of that last line but… I’ll check back later, clever clogs π

You’ve totally stumped me. All I can think is One man went to mow… You’re too damned clever, you. π

Or just being ridicules… Only time will tell. I’ll post the close in plain text if no one gets it.

No, I see someone else has already got it. I’m wondering if it’s one that’s not so well known in UK?

NO! Chris didn’t get the last line so the mystery is still not solved… It’s too simple. Causing overthinking. I’ll post the answer in the comments after I get home from work if no one gets it by then.

Too simple, we clever wits are trying to get too complicated.

A great creative response to the prompt – a cute puzzle – a brain-teaser – well done. π

I’m totally baffled, Violet. I may know parts of most nursery rhymes, but not completely… and I’m overthinking as well. A good puzzle I have to say. You have me perplexed! π€π

This is a nursery rhyme I made up not an established one.

ππ Told you I was overthinking it. I’ve got it now! That last line was a tricky one, but I had help from above. Literally! The comment above, up there a bit, told me the solution!
Good one, Violet! π

Crispina’s prompts often bring out he whimsy in me. And that is not always an easy thing to do…. Thank you Diana.

As promised, here is the plain text version:
Two trolls went a gnoming
For new garden statuaries
One laid a trap with mushrooms
One a snare of plump ripe berries
Two gnomes went a trolling
For what? neither one would say
Ate berries, shrooms and- fishing nets?
Nein! from those- they oughtβve stayed away..
Crispina was essentially correct as Nein is German for No..
This was fun. Thanks to all who played along.

Ha ha! Yes, the ‘nein’ came to me as I was lying awake in the early hours of the morning. That was fun.

I don’t have a clue what came over me and inspired me to write that, but it was fun.
