“The evening’s shot. Let’s just call it a night.”
“What did I do?”
“Nothing. Everything’s fine.”
“Are you kidding me? One minute everything’s great we’re like talking and laughing and shit, and the next thing I know it’s like I trampled on some sacred ground of yours or something.”
“It’s not like that at all. I just don’t feel like talking anymore.”
“It’s not like I’m asking you to talk deep into the night or get all philosophical. I just wanna know why you flipped on me. I wanna know what I did.”
“You didn’t do anything! You never do anything! You don’t even think!”
“What am I supposed to be thinking?”
“Ugh! What time is it?”
“Like twenty to twelve.”
“What day is it?”
“Friday.”
“No! I mean like what day of the month.”
“I don’t know. Like the 25th or something.”
“So, the fact that today is, almost was, the 25th doesn’t mean anything to you at all?”
“Uh, no. Should it?”
“Yes! It’s our anniversary you dumb ass! We’ve been together exactly one month today.”
This budding disaster of a relationship was brought to you courtesy of tnkerr’s OLWG prompt #143. I also utilized Fandangos Flash Fiction Challenge #54’s photo.
The phrases provided by the OLWG this week were:
- sacred ground
- talk deep into the night
- the evening’s shot
Ooops… unforgivable sin, right there…

Funny, the things that seem relevant at different moments in life and just plain silly in others… Thanks for stopping by and leaving your mark. 😉

One month? Nah, that’s not one I’d remember either 🙂

Exactly. Kind of a study in level of priorities. He’s happy in the here and now, and she’s projecting… Hmm that sounds familiar…

That’s a major milestone. How could he not have been aware? Wait, maybe he knew all along, but since she didn’t mention it, he didn’t either. Maybe he has some flowers, or a box of chocolates, or a spare tire in the boot of his car just waiting. He simply didn’t want to make a big deal out of it if she didn’t.
Oh well, he can give the flowers to the checker at the market. He can eat the chocolates when he gets home. He can give the spare tire to his next girl.
Great story! Thank you

Hmm. I think I may have had a conversation like this back in the day with a girl I dated for a while. Actually, it was for one month! Exactly! Nicely done.

Love the lively back-and-forth, Violet. I’m thinking that the woman might not be a keeper.

Okay, I see what you did. This was very funny, exactly one month, hilarious. Love the way you did the day thing, and this story really tells a story. I want to know more about these characters.

Well, thank you Ted. Although I think he just dropped her off and decided the bang wasn’t worth the buck…..
