in my minds darkest hour,
i saw him standing alone,
rumpled clothes, unkempt hair
a smile that said “believe in me”
radiating from his worry lined face…
i strayed from my plan
and hit the curb,
nearly screeching to a stop-
he asked if i was going far,
i told him much farther than that..
we talked and laughed
and sang some songs
he mentioned i no longer looked sad-
i couldn’t contest that- so instead,
i told him i had set off to end it all
but he’d made me rethink my plan.
he told me he had been there too,
very recently in fact
as he slipped the noose about his neck
he decided, just this once
to give himself a chance..
now we travel together
for however long it will last.
both of us on the run-
he from the clutches of the law-
and me from the jaws of death..

What a great story, supporting each other in whatever life brings next!

This poem gives me the feeling you’d write an awesome Bonnie+Clyde type epic.

Scary thoughts and memories of my hitchhiking days.
Yikes! I was either brave or stupid.
Great story however, and excellent use of the prompt.
Good six.

You’re the first person in over a decade of bogging that has admitted to hitchhiking. I did a lot of it, back in the year one and all. Thanks, UP for your kind words.

Help often comes when least expected and needed most. I hope the friendship endures 🙂
Uplifting Six and perhaps a lesson, that you never know what may happen so why not stick around to find out!

Sometimes it works better if you start off with a couple of strikes against you.. Maybe the expectations aren’t so high? Not sure. Thank you so much for dropping in and leaving a comment.

They each needed one another at that time and perhaps will each end up in a better place by being together and bravely overcoming the history of their pasts. I love that last sentence. A great weaving of words.
