Jack took Diane’s hand, and together they slammed the stick into overdrive.
With a welcoming straightaway stretched out before them, Jack nailed it, and buried the speedometer in the first quarter mile.
Although no one knows exactly what happened in the moments following Jack’s Mustangs launch over the precipice, I’d venture to guess, both Jack and Diane were flipping the world the bird- all the way down..

Nice one Violet. You were channeling ‘ Hit the road Jack’, ‘ Thelma and Louise’ , ‘Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid’ and perhaps ‘ Don’t look back in anger’.

Indeed I was, Len. I wonder just how many really original stories there are out there sometimes..

The references in this one are so plentiful, yet seamlessly interwoven! I bet I’m even missing some.

Thank you for thinking so, but the piece isn’t quite as deep as all that.. Just a going out in a blaze of glory kinda thing..

I was just thinking about all the song references. I got “Here’s a diddy, about Jack and Diane” and “Hit the Road, Jack,” then I saw someone else in the comments got even more!

Len threw in a couple of movie references that are very fitting too….

But no one noticed the ‘go out in a blaze of glory’… that was thinking about when I wrote it- from Sid and Nancy….
