Furrowed rows
of battle scarred
soldiers
Brittle pages hold
what no one sees
Gone the way
of ink on paper
As scribes subscribe
to technologies.
In a race
to erase
a too deep footprint
Will we cast aside
a legacy?

Dear Violet,
This one touched me deeply. Especially the last line. Well done.

Such a powerful piece. That last stanza is brilliant. I’d not considered it before but now I don’t think I’ll be able to get it out of my head.

There will always be those who refuse to bow down completely… at least I hope so.
Beautifully and heartbreakingly done, Violet.

Yes, I had some pens made to give to my writer friends. I asked my granddaughter’s drama teacher how many students she had, as I would give each one of them a pen. She told me they don’t write anymore, using iPads, etc. Amazing. I will send you a pen, that is if you still write.

Namaste Violet Lentz 🙂
A superb use of forty fragile words penned here in virtual permanence.
It would be a travesty if books were to ever be entirely replaced. Perfection in a digital realm subsumes the enchantment found in a physical object. Whether this may be deemed progressive is a debate for another time.
Have a great week. Take care 🙂

Namaste Violet 🙂
Most certainly you are not alone: millions of people around the world feel similarly to you. Books will be around for many years to come.
If it helps at all, the following is taken from Publishers Weekly regarding print-copy book sales for 2017 (1)
‘Although no new book sold more than one million print copies last year, unit sales of print books were 1.9% higher in 2017 than in 2016 at outlets that report to NPD BookScan. The service, which tracks between 80% and 85% of print sales, reported 687.2 million total units sold last year, up from 674.1 million in 2016.’
And this taken from an article appearing in The Guardian Newspaper (UK) printed on Thursday 19 Jul 2018 (2)
‘Book sales boom but authors report shrinking incomes’
Keep smiling Violet. Those battling soldiers are fighting hard to keep their place on the book-shelves. All is not lost yet! 🙂
Namaste 🙂

Beautifully written! I love the idea of bookshelves being furrowed rows, but so sad to think of the loss of so much treasure. 🙂
